I found this quote in Grant Wiggens and Jay McTighe’s book Understanding by Design (a very worthwhile book to own if you don’t already). It was this quote with its eloquent, simple beauty that really moved me to pursue UBD in my classroom. Unlike Alice, I don’t want my students and I to end up ‘somewhere’ at the end of their time with me; I want to know where I’d like to get to and then move in that direction.
